The goal of FIRST is to promote science, technology and engineering to students of all ages. The FRC or FIRST Robotics Competition is a program for high schoolers where you are given six weeks to design and build a fully functional robot to play a unique game.
Each year FIRST hosts four competitions for kids of ages 6-18; The JFLL (Junior FIRST Lego League), the FLL (FIRST Lego League), the FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) and FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition). The MPArors participates in the FRC progam for high school students.
FIRST was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen and has grown to encompass hundreds of thousands of students of all ages. As of this year, there are about 293,000 students on 26,800 teams that create over 24,000 robots. Helping these students achieve their goals are over 101,000 volunteers who help to mentor and make FIRST what it is today.
